Zoos and Aquariums, represented by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), are actively getting people to act to preserve biodiversity, which is shrinking at an alarming rate. We aim to promote awareness of Biodiversity loss and inform people of simple everyday actions individuals can do to promote biodiversity.
As part of the ongoing collaboration between ICOM NATHIST and WAZA the latter’s Biodiversity is US campaign is being made available to ICOM members to increase the potential outreach of the campaign – at no cost. In fact the Natural History Museum Rijeka was recently been recognized with an award for their contribution to the Biodiversity is Us project with their traveling exhibit which included content provided to them as part of this process.
The project is timed to support the UN Decade of Biodiversity (2011-2020) and includes an application available for smart phone users in seven languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Chinese) at no cost. The app has 365 actions and 400 specie profiles including IUCN Red List statuses and distribution maps, take part in games and quizzes, build your own animal check-lists and share your favourite animals, pictures and actions with friends via Facebook.
